We decided to take a Sunday stroll yesterday. So drove up the valley behind Bannockburn to Duffers Pass (which then leads into the Nevis Valley behind the Remarkables). You can kind of see where I am staying - we are halfway up the lake (Dunstan) on the left
These are Spaniards. You soon learn to give them a very wide berth as everything about them is sharp, hard spikes and = pain.
All this country is old goldmining territory and they built water races (channels) to provide the water necessary for panning or sluicing. In the photo below (click to enlarge) you can see the horizontal line of the race.
The goal of the walk was to get to this waterwheel...
...and these nearby huts.
By now the sunny and blustery day was turning into something more ominous...
...and it rained. And we got a bit wet. The the sun came out again and we dried out.
